Fiery Fantasy Thoughts

Captivating but not fully engaging – this was not the ending I was hoping for!

I was enthralled with the first book! So much so that I went onto Catching Fire straight away with eagerness, however, after reading a few chapters I just thought it all became unnecessarily complicated. The introduction to the myriad of characters just took away some of the sparkle for me.

Even though Collins keeps the readers in suspense, with new twists and turns I felt that Katniss's character became less realistic with her fluctuating feelings with her complicated love triangle, which I found difficult to comprehend and relate to.

The positive part of this book is that Peeta managed to partially mend Katniss, and made her realise she could still live after everything that happened and I liked this rainbow coming from the clouds scenario as it gave a little light heartedness to the whole brutal story.

I liked the character development in this book (even with Katniss’s slightly change in emotions) however my main issue with this book was that the War events and fatalities happened too fast, the whole battle became too overwhelming!

All in all, I personally found this book underwhelming and give it 3 out 5!
